What to expect the first time
Sitting in a new stylist’s chair is a small act of trust. Here is exactly how it goes.
Call or text first
Rene works by appointment, so the first step is always 619-952-5690. Text is often easiest: send a photo of your hair as it is now and a photo of what you are after, and she will tell you what is realistic before you come in. There is no online booking, and no form that goes into a void.
Find the salon
She works out of Pizazz Hair and Nail Salon at 7676 Jackson Dr, Ste 5, in the San Carlos neighborhood just off Navajo Road. There is a free lot right in front, so you are not circling for street parking. Walk in and ask for Rene.
Talk before anything starts
The first few minutes are a conversation, not a sales pitch. Rene will look at your hair, ask what you like and what you have never been able to get right, and tell you what she would do. If what you want is not achievable in one sitting, or not achievable on your hair at all, she will say so then rather than halfway through.
You get a price before she begins
There is no price list on this site because an honest number depends on your hair length, density and condition. What you get instead is a quote in person, before any color is mixed or any hair is cut, so nothing at the end is a surprise.
Budget enough time
A cut is straightforward. Color, highlights and perms take longer, and a correction can take several hours or more than one visit. Ask when you book and Rene will give you a real number so you can plan the rest of your day.
Book the next one before you go
Most of her clients leave with the next appointment already set, which is how the standing weekly and biweekly slots work. If you would rather not commit, that is fine too, and you can call whenever you need her.
